As per reports, the Peruvian Council of Ministers declared a state of emergency in 707 districts across 14 regions due to heavy rainfall, landslides, mudslides, river overflows, and flooding risk as of Wednesday (25 February), to facilitate rapid response, resource allocation, and suspension of certain administrative processes.
• A prolonged and intense rainy period linked to the active La Niña phase and Amazon moisture convergence has triggered widespread flooding, landslides (huaycos), mudslides, and river overflows across northern, central, and Amazonian Peru.
• The National Civil Defense (Indeci) confirmed that emergency measures may enable immediate response, evacuation support, and risk mitigation in the most impacted areas.
• At least six confirmed fatalities and thousands of affected households have been reported, with many regions facing evacuation, sheltering, and emergency response operations.
• The affected areas include Amazonas, Ancash, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Madre de Dios, Piura, Puno, San Martín, and Tumbes.
• Multiple bridges washed away, sections of the Pan-American Highway North are impassable, secondary roads have been blocked, and airports such as Tarapoto, Chachapoyas, and Yurimaguas have restricted operations.
