As per reports, the Grand River Conservation Authority issued a flood watch on Thursday (08 January), for communities located along the Nith River and the lower Grand River.
• The flood watch follows forecasts of warm temperatures and rainfall associated with several fast moving low pressure systems expected to impact the watershed on Thursday (08 January), and Friday (09 January).
• An additional weather system on Friday (09 January) could bring 10 millimetres to 15 millimetres of rainfall, followed by a wintry mix of ice and snowfall forecast for Saturday (10 January).
• The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) noted that snowfall levels across the watershed are at or above seasonal norms, with measurements indicating 30 millimetres to 80 millimetres of equivalent water content, increasing runoff potential.
• New Hamburg and Ayr have been placed under a flood watch on Thursday (08 January), with residents advised to anticipate increased runoff from snowmelt combined with rainfall.
• Flood watches remain in effect for Brantford, while additional flood watches have been issued for Brant County, Six Nations, Cayuga, Caledonia, and Dunnville.
• The GRCA warned of an elevated risk of ice jam formation, particularly in Brantford and along the lower Grand River, as river ice breaks up following warm conditions on Thursday (08 January) and Friday (09 January).
