According to the reports, at 0955 hours (local time) on Tuesday (06 January), a moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.0 struck Kapisa, Afghanistan, approximately 56 kilometers (km) north of Kabul. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 100 km and was confirmed by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The epicenter was located near Mahmud-e Raqi, Kapisa, at coordinates 35.02 degrees North / 69.31 degrees East.
The tremor generated very weak shaking (MMI II) in nearby towns including Charikar, Jabal Saraj, Mir Bachah Kot, Tagab, and the capital, Kabul. No injuries or structural damage have been reported.
