As per reports, a powerful “bomb cyclone” is expected to continue affecting Alger County and the central Upper Peninsula on Monday (29 December). While the initial Winter Weather Advisory highlighted 2 to 4 inches of snow, conditions have rapidly escalated into a full-scale Blizzard Warning in effect until 1900 hours (local time).

• Heavy lake-effect snow is resulting in localised totals of 14 to 24 inches in higher terrain, with significant drifting caused by northerly winds.
• Sustained winds and gusts of up to 55–65 mph are creating whiteout conditions, particularly near the Lake Superior shoreline.
• A Lakeshore Flood Warning is also active until 2200 hours (local time), with massive waves of 15 to 20 feet causing beach erosion and flooding on coastal roads near Munising and Grand Marais.
• This storm, dubbed Winter Storm Ezra, is a rapidly intensifying system that has already caused widespread outages across mid-Michigan earlier this weekend.
