As per reports, approximately 86,000 University of California (UC) employees are scheduled to participate in a strike from Monday to Tuesday (17–18 November).

• The action is being organized by the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE)–CWA Local 9119 and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3299, representing technical, custodial, healthcare, and service staff across all UC campuses and medical centres.
• The strike follows nearly 16 months of stalled contract negotiations, with unions citing staffing shortages, wage disputes, and alleged unfair labor practices. UPTE represents about 20,000 health care and technical staff, while AFSCME represents approximately 37,000 custodial, healthcare, and service workers.
• The unions have accused UC of bargaining in bad faith and imposing restrictive work policies, while UC leadership expressed disappointment and emphasized ongoing efforts to reach an agreement, including proposals for wage increases and incentives.
• This strike is projected to be the largest in UC system history, potentially impacting academic operations, healthcare facilities, research laboratories, and campus maintenance services across multiple UC locations, including Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, Davis, and San Francisco.
