Thailand and Cambodia sign peace deal in presence of US President Donald Trump on Sunday (26 October)

As per reports, the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia signed an enhanced ceasefire deal on Sunday (26 October) at the annual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Malaysia. Following are the details:

• United States (US) President Donald Trump oversaw the signing of the expanded ceasefire between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
• The agreement includes Thailand releasing 18 Cambodian soldiers currently imprisoned in Thailand, and for both countries to begin removing heavy weapons from border areas.
• Other measures outlined indicate that Thailand and Cambodia will conduct joint surveys of border areas and conduct joint de-mining operations. Thailand has also announced plans to build a fence in the non-disputed areas of the border.
• Both countries have also agreed to jointly tackle the problem of scam syndicates.
• After the ceasefire ceremony, US President Trump signed separate trade agreements with both countries. He announced a reciprocal trade agreement with Cambodia, and a trade deal with Thailand on critical minerals.
