Tropical Depression “Nando” recorded on Wednesday (17 September)

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a bulletin at 2300 hours local time on Wednesday (17 September) reporting Tropical Depression “Nando”. Tropical Depression NANDO has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

• The center of NANDO is currently estimated at 1,140 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon.
• The system is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour.
• Maximum sustained winds near the center are 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour.
• NANDO is forecast to move generally northwestward over the Philippine Sea, before turning west-northwestward towards Extreme Northern Luzon by Sunday (21 September).
• The tropical depression is expected to intensify while over the Philippine Sea, potentially reaching typhoon category by Saturday (20 September), with further intensification into super typhoon category possible.
• Heavy rainfall is not expected to directly affect weather within the next 48 hours. The onset of heavy rains due to the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by NANDO is possible on Sunday and Monday (21 and 22 September).
• NANDO may enhance the Southwest Monsoon, resulting in strong to gale-force winds in affected areas.
• No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal has been issued as of this advisory.
