As per reports, as of Tuesday (22 April), the Directorate-General of Health (Direção-Geral da Saúde – DGS) in Portugal has confirmed a total of 14 measles cases since January 2025. Of these, one case was reported in the Central region, while 13 were identified in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region. All cases are either imported or connected to imported infections.
• The affected individuals include nine adults aged between 20 and 40 years and five children between five months and six years old. All individuals are currently in stable clinical condition.
• Despite the high vaccination rate, the health authority highlights global vaccine hesitancy as a growing challenge. This hesitancy is contributing to increased global circulation of vaccine-preventable diseases, including measles.
