Reduced train speeds cause delays across Egypt rail network on Monday (17 August)

As per reports, the Egyptian national railways authority announced on Monday (17 August) that train speeds would be reduced across the national railway network due to elevated temperatures, resulting in expected delays on multiple routes.

• Authorities stated that the precautionary measure is being implemented to ensure passenger safety and protect railway infrastructure during periods of extreme heat.
• Reports indicate that train speed restrictions are being implemented daily from 1100 hours local time (0900 hours UTC) to 1800 hours local time (1600 hours UTC) during periods of high temperatures.
• Reportedly, the Egyptian national railways authority stated that train services continue to operate on all railway lines while precautionary speed reductions remain in place.
• Reports indicate that expected average delays include: Cairo–Alexandria approximately 20 minutes, Cairo–Tanta approximately 15 minutes, Cairo–Asyut approximately 55 minutes, Asyut–Aswan approximately 55 minutes, Banha–Port Said approximately 45 minutes, Tanta–Mansoura–Damietta approximately 45 minutes, Qallin–Kafr El Sheikh approximately 70 minutes.
