Impact Level: Notification
Locations Affected: Romania
Tracking Id: RINTP5953322535
Description:
As per reports, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued red, orange, and yellow heatwave warnings across Romania, valid until 1000 hours local time (0700 hours UTC) on Saturday (08 August), due to extreme temperatures, heightened thermal discomfort, and tropical night conditions.
• Reports indicate that a red heatwave warning is in effect from 1000 hours local time (0700 hours UTC) on Wednesday (05 August) until 1000 hours local time (0700 hours UTC) on Thursday (06 August) for Maramureș, Satu Mare, Sălaj, Bihor, Arad, Timiș, and Caraș-Severin counties.
• Reportedly, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees Celsius in Maramureș, Satu Mare, and Sălaj counties, while temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius to 41 degrees Celsius are forecast in Bihor, Arad, Timiș, and Caraș-Severin counties.
• Reportedly, thermal discomfort is expected to remain elevated, with the Temperature Humidity Index forecast to exceed the critical threshold of 80 units in affected areas.
Impact:
• Extreme temperatures and prolonged heat exposure may affect outdoor operations, construction activities, logistics movements, and field-based business operations across the affected counties.
• Elevated temperatures may increase electricity demand for cooling systems, creating a possibility of localised pressure on power infrastructure and utility services.
• Employees undertaking outdoor travel or operational duties may face heightened heat-related health risks, particularly during afternoon hours when temperatures are expected to peak.
• Prolonged heatwave conditions may affect transportation operations, vehicle performance, and supply chain activities, especially in western Romania where the highest temperatures are forecast.
Recommendations:
It is advised to consider extreme temperatures when planning outdoor operational activities and employee travel in affected regions, and to take necessary precautions to minimize heat-related impacts.
• Employees undertaking essential outdoor travel are advised to remain hydrated and adhere to guidance issued by local authorities and emergency services (https://www.fiipregatit.ro/).
