Description:
As per reports, JR Kyushu has announced that Kyushu Shinkansen services between Shin-Minamata Station in Kumamoto Prefecture and Kagoshima-Chuo Station will partially resume from the morning of Friday (07 August) with a reduced number of train services.
• The section had been suspended following the recent Kumamoto earthquake.
• Authorities stated that the Kumamoto–Shin-Minamata section will remain suspended due to significant infrastructure damage, including rail warping and bridge deformation, making restoration unlikely during August.
• Meanwhile, services between Hakata and Kumamoto have already resumed.
Impact:
• Partial restoration of services is expected to improve rail connectivity between Shin-Minamata and Kagoshima-Chuo, although reduced train frequencies may result in limited passenger capacity.
• Commuters, business travellers, and tourists travelling through southern Kyushu may continue to experience disruptions until the damaged section is restored.
