As per reports, Indiana Governor Mike Braun issued a new statewide energy emergency declaration on Wednesday (05 August), scheduled to take effect on Friday (07 August) after the existing declaration expires.
• The measure extends the suspension of Indiana’s Gasoline Use Tax and Gasoline Excise Tax through 05 September.
• The declaration does not indicate a physical gasoline shortage or immediate disruption to fuel availability. It provides the legal basis for continuing the tax suspension amid elevated global energy costs.
• The Gasoline Use Tax is equivalent to the state’s seven percent sales tax on gasoline, while the Gasoline Excise Tax is normally charged per gallon. Both are collected at the distributor level rather than directly from motorists at fuel stations
• The existing suspension remains valid through Thursday (06 August).
• Under the new declaration, fuel distributors are expected to continue excluding the suspended taxes from eligible transactions, with the resulting savings anticipated to be reflected in retail pump prices across Indiana.
