Thailand imposes quarantine and entry restrictions for travellers from Congo and Uganda – Thursday (28 May)

As per reports, Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has reportedly confirmed that from Wednesday (27 May), all travellers arriving from or transiting through the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda will only be permitted to enter Thailand through Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

• Authorities stated that communicable disease control officers will conduct mandatory health screening and travel-history verification upon arrival in Thailand.

• Travellers displaying symptoms consistent with Ebola virus disease will be transferred to designated medical isolation facilities for a minimum 21-day observation and treatment period.
• The Ministry of Public Health stated that the measures were implemented following the World Health Organization’s classification of the Ebola outbreak linked to the Bundibugyo virus strain as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
• Foreign nationals travelling from affected areas are required to complete registration through the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system before departure.
• Thai nationals returning from the affected countries are required to register through the Thai Health Pass system during airline check-in procedures.
• Airlines operating affected routes have been instructed to conduct pre-departure health screening and submit passenger information to Thai communicable disease control authorities before arrival.
• Thai authorities warned that travellers who fail to comply with quarantine or isolation directives may face legal penalties under Thailand’s Communicable Diseases Act 2015, including fines and imprisonment. Authorities advised Thai citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda until further notice.
