As per reports, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 8125, representing approximately 4,400 WestJet mainline flight attendants, issued a formal notice of dispute on Monday (27 April), after more than seven months of negotiations with the Calgary-based airline failed to produce sufficient progress.
• The union stated that talks have been ongoing since September 2025, with meetings held multiple times each month, including up to four times per week for three weeks a month.
• Key issues include unpaid work averaging 35 hours per month, outdated compensation systems, demanding schedules, reliable rest conditions, confirmed hotel accommodation and basic working conditions.
• The union stated that flight attendants are ‘multiple steps away from any strike position’ and is calling on WestJet to return to meaningful negotiations to reach an agreement and minimise impact on travellers.
