As per reports, the East Kalimantan People’s Struggle Alliance (APM-KT) scheduled a demonstration in front of the East Kalimantan governor’s office in Samarinda starting at 0900 hours (local time) on Tuesday (21 April).
• The demonstration began in the morning hours on Tuesday (21 April), with students and members of various community organizations crowding the East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) office.
• Journalists were prohibited from entering the East Kalimantan Governor’s Office during the demonstration, restricting internal coverage access.
• East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Regional Police deployed a total of 2,263 joint personnel at several strategic points in Samarinda for the demonstration. Authorities stated that this increased security was aimed at anticipating potential security disturbances.
• Authorities also install barbed wire fences at the demonstration site to prevent disorder, stating the measures are aimed at security rather than restricting public expression.
• Additionally, East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud stated that government operations and public services would continue as normal during the planned demonstration on Tuesday (21 April).
• Samarinda Police Traffic Unit prepared vehicle flow engineering at a number of strategic points in Samarinda. Traffic police authorities stated that traffic diversions will be implemented from 0800 hours (local time) to 1200 hours (local time). The flow of vehicles from Jalan MT Haryono to Jalan Rapak Indah and vice versa will be completely diverted.
• Police have prepared alternative routes to reduce congestion, including Teuku Umar Street, Citra Griya Housing Complex, Adam Malik Street, Slamet Riyadi Street, Meranti Road, Ulin Street, and Tengkawang Road.
• Additional diversions around the Governor’s Office on Jalan Gajah Mada include East Commercial Street, Sebatik Island Road, Imam Bonjol Street, Basuki Rahmat Street, KH Abdul Rasyid Street, Bhayangkara Street, Hero’s Path, Dr. Sutomo Street, Letjen Suprapto Street, Juanda Street, Antasari Street, RE Martadinata Street, Mount Cermai Road, Mount Merbabu Road, Mount Arjuna Road, General Sudirman Street, KH Khalid Street, Prince Diponegoro Street, and Business Street; police urge using them to avoid jams near DPRD and Governor’s Office.
