As per reports, Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have warned of a possible suspension of domestic flight operations starting Monday (20 April), citing a sharp increase in aviation fuel (Jet A1) prices.
• The announcement was made on Wednesday (16 April), highlighting that fuel prices have surged from approximately NGN 900 per litre in February to around NGN 3,300 per litre, representing an increase of over 300 percent.
• According to the operators, the sustained rise in fuel costs has significantly increased operational expenses, making it financially unsustainable to continue normal flight operations.
• Airlines noted that they have maintained services over recent weeks despite rising costs, but the situation has now reached a critical threshold.
• The development raises concerns over widespread disruptions to domestic air travel across Nigeria if a resolution is not reached promptly between airline operators, fuel marketers, and relevant authorities.
