According to reports, air quality in Kuala Terengganu City remained at a moderate level as of Monday (06 April), but conditions are approaching the unhealthy threshold, with Air Pollutant Index (API) readings recorded at approximately 89 and ambient temperatures reaching around 33 degrees Celsius.
• Authorities have attributed the elevated pollutant concentration primarily to hot weather conditions and weak wind movement, which have resulted in reduced dispersion of air pollutants, particularly fine particulate matter, during midday hours.
• The combination of high temperatures and stable atmospheric conditions can further promote the formation of secondary pollutants while limiting natural air circulation.
• Urban centres such as Kuala Terengganu remain vulnerable to rising API levels even in the absence of large‑scale haze events.
• Relevant local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, including through smart air‑quality surveillance systems utilising Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
