As per reports from the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), official weather warnings are in effect across Bavaria for heavy snowfall, gale-force winds, icy conditions, and isolated thunderstorms associated with a sharp wintry reversal following several days of spring-like temperatures as of Thursday (26 March).
• According to the reports, Germany is currently under the influence of polar air masses. In southern Germany, the effects have been felt since Wednesday evening (25 March), with up to 50 cm of fresh snow already reported in higher-elevation areas overnight into Thursday (26 March).
• Snowfall warnings are in effect across southern Bavarian districts through Friday (27 March) morning, with accumulations of 15 to 30 centimeters forecast above 1,000 meters. In exposed accumulation zones of the high mountains, snowfall totals of up to 50 centimeters are possible, and widespread icy conditions are expected.
• The following districts are reportedly affected by an official level 2 warning (severe weather) for snowfall: Ostallgäu, Oberallgäu, Lindau (Lake Constance), Weilheim-Schongau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Miesbach, Rosenheim district and city, Traunstein, and Berchtesgaden region.
• According to the reports, maximum temperatures across Bavaria on Friday (27 March) are forecast to reach four to nine degrees Celsius and two degrees Celsius in the Alpine foothills.
