60-day State of Emergency declared in Pisco province of Ica region on Saturday (14 March)

As per reports, the Government of Peru has declared a state of emergency in the province of Pisco, located in the Ica region, in order to strengthen citizen security and address rising criminal activity in the area on Saturday (14 March), whereby the measure has been enacted through a Supreme Decree published in the official government gazette.

• The state of emergency is expected to remain in effect for 60 calendar days. During this period, the National Police of Peru (PNP) is expected to maintain control of internal security, supported by the Armed Forces, which may conduct joint operations in designated intervention areas.
• The emergency declaration reportedly allows authorities to implement intensified security operations aimed at combating crime and restoring public order, particularly in response to incidents linked to violence, extortion, and other forms of organised criminal activity reported in the province.
