As per reports, a residential safety incident occurred on Thursday (12 March) in West Valley City after a vehicle crashed into a home, causing structural damage and a gas leak that prompted an evacuation.
• The incident took place shortly before 0800 hours local time (1400 hour UTC) in the area of 4100 South and Rushford Court.
• According to emergency responders from the West Valley City Fire Department, a 39-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and drove directly into the corner of the residence, with the car penetrating into the living room area of the house.
• Two residents were reportedly present inside the home at the time of the collision; however, they were located in another part of the house and were not physically injured. Emergency services evacuated the occupants due to a gas leak that resulted from damage to a gas line caused by the crash.
• Firefighters and utility crews worked to contain the gas leak and secure the area. The driver was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, although the extent of his injuries and medical condition has not been publicly confirmed.
• As a precautionary measure, authorities reportedly planned to board up the damaged section of the residence while inspectors evaluate the property to determine whether it is safe for the occupants to return.
