As per reports, authorities temporarily evacuated part of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after a suspicious package was discovered on the morning of Thursday (12 March).
• The item was reportedly located at approximately 0900 hours local time (1300 hours UTC) in a break room within Concourse D, which is part of Terminal Two and primarily serves American Airlines operations.
• Following the discovery of the item, airport police reportedly established a safety perimeter and evacuated passengers and personnel from Concourse D while authorities assessed the situation.
• The evacuation was conducted as a precautionary measure while the suspicious package was examined. The response involved coordination between airport security personnel and local emergency responders.
• The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority confirmed that the item was cleared by the Arlington County Fire Department at approximately 1020 hours local time (1420 hours UTC).
• An official ‘all clear’ was issued around 1030 hours local time (1430 hours UTC), after which normal airport operations began gradually resuming.
• Airport authorities stated that the evacuation was limited to the affected concourse and that no injuries were reported during the incident.
• As per flight tracking services, more than 100 flights arriving at or departing from the airport experienced delays during the morning hours, although it remains unclear how many of those delays were directly related to the evacuation.
