Youth Congress workers scuffled with police while protesting in Chandigarh on Sunday (09 February)

As per reports, Chandigarh Police baton charged protesting workers of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC, youth wing of Congress Party) outside the party office in Sector 35 on Sunday (09 February). The IYC workers were protesting the alleged mistreatment of Indian youths recently deported from the United States. The protesters also raised slogans over unemployment, drugs and the ownership rights for residents of rehabilitation schemes in Chandigarh.

The IYC workers gathered outside the IYC office in the afternoon hours. They tried to march towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Sector 33 when they were intercepted by a heavy police force, resulting in a scuffle. Three protesters and a few police personnel, including a woman constable, sustained injuries during the clash; stones were also hurled at police vehicles. The injured were taken to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16.
