As per reports, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has raised safety concerns over illegal high-rise developments surrounding Wilson Airport on Thursday (26 March) following an audit that identified more than 40 buildings exceeding approved height limits.
• These structures particularly in Nairobi’s South C area are interfering with standard flight operations, forcing pilots to adjust takeoff and landing paths, including increased use of Runway 14 to avoid obstacles.
• The encroachment has also complicated future infrastructure plans, including proposed runway expansion, due to land ownership disputes.
• Authorities have acknowledged that continued urban development near the airport may affect airflow patterns and operational safety, prompting discussions on stricter enforcement or potential long-term relocation options.
