As per reports, this Tuesday (25 February) afternoon, a widespread power outage affected a several regions in Chile. Reports suggest that the power outage has affected large portions of the country, between the regions of Arica and Parinacota to Los Lagos, including the island of Chiloé.
• Much of the Metropolitan Region has reportedly been affected by the massive power outage, in which more than 580,000 people are without this service.
• The Santiago Metro has been affected by the outage stating “at this time, due to a general power outage in Santiago and other regions of the country, the train service is suspended.”
• Intermittent mobile phone services have also been reported.
• Following the incident, an emergency meeting of the Committee for Disaster Risk Management (Cogrid), led by Senapred and the Undersecretary of the Interior, Luis Cordero, was called to investigate the origin of the outage. “Electricity transmission companies are working on investigating the failure and restarting the service ,” Senapred reported.
