According to reports, the update on the protest by doctors against the rape and murder case of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor as of Monday (19 August) is as follows:

• The film fraternity including actors, directors and technicians staged a rally on Sunday (18 August) in protest against the incident. The protest rally included 200 people and started from the Technicians’ Studio in Tollygunge, after which they traveled by bus to Khanna crossing in north Kolkata, and then continued on foot to Shyambazar Metro Station.
• A protest took place near the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday (18 August), during which large crowds gathered at around 1600 hours, leading to clashes with police personnel. Lathi-charging was reported.
• Members of the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) took out a candelight march.
• The Governor has called for an emergency meeting on Monday (19 August) of representatives from various societies.
• The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the case, and a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is scheduled to hear the case on Tuesday (20 August).
• On Monday (19 August), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold Raksha Bandhan programmes for women’s safety in 15 major locations in Kolkata under the leadership of Mahila Morcha. On Tuesday (20 August), MLAs will stage a protest and on Wednesday (21 August), MPs will stage a protest. on Thursday (22 August), the protest will continue at the Swasthya Bhavan, and on Friday (23 August), the Mahila Morcha will protest. The BJP is demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
• The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has carried out 3D laser mapping of the emergency ward to record digital blueprints of the site for investigations. CBI also began the psychological testing of the main accused.
