As per reports, the Mount Merapi volcano along the Central Java-Yogyakarta border experienced an eruption at approximately 1330 hours (local time) of Thursday (14 March), resulting in a volcanic ash column that reached 1,000 meters high. This is the first eruption after a five-day period of low volcanic activity.
The area around Mount Merapi continues to be designated as Risk Level III (alert) with the prohibition on entry of persons within a 4.5 kilometer radius from the center of the eruption, and restrictions on tourism and industrial activities in the vicinity of the volcano.
