As per reports, the fire risk map of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Greece has classified the Xanthi Regional Unit (P.E. Xanthi) under a very high wildfire risk level (Risk Category four) for Wednesday (12 August).

• In accordance with Decision No. 124697/1408/20-4-2026 issued by the Deputy Regional Governor of the Xanthi Regional Unit a prohibition on the transit, presence and movement of persons and vehicles in the peri-urban forests of the Xanthi Regional Unit has been placed in effect from 0730 hours local time (0430 hours UTC) on Wednesday (12 August).
• The prohibition will remain in force for as long as the fire risk index remains at Category four or Category three.
• The prohibition applies to the peri-urban forest of the Municipality of Xanthi, including the woodland area (Dasyllio) to the north of the Kimmeria settlement; the peri-urban forest of the Toxotes–Galani settlement within the Municipality of Topeiros; the woodland areas (Dasyllia) of Porto Lagos: at the western entrance of the settlement, surrounding the heron colony and the woodland area (Dasyllio) on the Avdira beach, surrounding the student camp facilities.
• The public has been called upon to exercise particular caution and to refrain from carrying out any outdoor work or activities that may cause a fire ignition.
• In the event of a fire, the public is advised to contact the fire service immediately on the emergency number 199.
• The decision has been issued by Deputy Regional Governor of the Xanthi Regional Unit, Vasiliki Pavlakaki.
