As per reports, the area restriction issued for the Ezra Creek wildfire area is scheduled to be rescinded at 1200 hours local time (1900 hours UTC) on Friday (18 September). The restriction is being lifted as fire behaviour and activity have decreased.
• Reports indicate that the Ezra Creek wildfire remains an active worksite and is estimated to cover approximately 143 hectares, located about 7.5 km northeast of Castlegar. Firefighting personnel continue to respond to the incident.
• Reportedly, although the area restriction is being rescinded, wildfire-related hazards may remain, including unstable fire-damaged trees and ash pits.
• Reports indicate that smoke may remain visible within the fire perimeter over the coming weeks, while smoke originating from green, unburned fuel or outside the fire perimeter is to be reported to authorities.
• Zero national priority fires or wildfires of note currently require multi-agency interagency emergency prioritisation.
• Reports indicate that the wider Interior region experienced several significant wildfires during the 2026 fire season, including the Pear Lake, Ainslie Creek, French Bar Creek, Bonanza Creek and Riley Creek wildfires.
• Fire danger across most of Western Canada is expected to decrease to low levels through the weekend, although localised moderate to high fire danger may remain across parts of southern British Columbia.
