The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Saturday (25 July), as per the District-wise forecast PDF document issued at 1800 hours (local time) on Friday (24 July).
The following are the latest situational updates regarding weather conditions and related disruptions in Mumbai:
• A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai on Saturday (25 July), with heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places. Occasional strong winds reaching 50-60 kilometres per hour, gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour, are also very likely, while no warning has been issued in the nowcast.
• Mumbai is expected to experience a generally cloudy sky with heavy rainfall during the day. Further rainfall may aggravate localized waterlogging in low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly where drainage systems remain saturated following recent rainfall.
• Long-distance rail services from Mumbai towards Gujarat remain affected due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging. More than 13 Mumbai-Gujarat train services were cancelled on Friday (24 July), and some long-distance services scheduled for Saturday (25 July) were also cancelled due to waterlogging and track safety concerns. The water level near the bridge between Gholvad in Palghar and Umbergaon in Gujarat reportedly reached a dangerous level, forcing suspension of rail traffic on the section.
• Mumbai suburban railway services are expected to operate largely normally. However, isolated delays or operational adjustments cannot be ruled out on vulnerable sections if rainfall intensity increases.
• Heavy rainfall and flooding in Palghar district and adjoining Gujarat areas caused severe congestion on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway on Friday (24 July). Floodwaters from the swollen Daman Ganga River inundated parts of the highway near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border, with long queues reported from Achhad to Manor and several travellers reportedly stranded for 12 to 15 hours.
• No citywide closure for government, municipal or private schools and colleges in Mumbai has been announced for Saturday (25 July). Educational institutions are expected to operate normally unless local authorities issue further instructions.
• Airport operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport are expected to continue. However, temporary weather-related delays may occur during passing rainfall spells, reduced visibility or periods of strong winds.
• The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Traffic Police, railway authorities, airport operators and disaster management agencies are expected to continue monitoring weather conditions and maintain operational readiness for any localised disruption arising from further rainfall.
