Update on Typhoon Dujuan near Japan as of Saturday (19 September)

As per the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), following are the latest updates on Typhoon Dujuan near Japan, as of Saturday (19 September):

• As per the latest JMA bulletin issued at 1545 hours (local time) on Saturday (19 September), Dujuan continues to be a Severe Tropical Storm with a central pressure of 975 hectopascals (hPa). It is moving northwest with maximum sustained wind speed of 30 metres per second (m/s) near the center.
• On Monday (21 September), Dujuan is expected to make its closest approach to the eastern coast of Japan at the intensity of a ‘Typhoon’.
• Between Tuesday and Wednesday (22-23 September), it is expected to gradually downgrade to ‘Severe Tropical Storm’ and a ‘Low Pressure’ system as it moves away from Japan.
• Reports indicate that Dujuan was located about 270 kilometers west of Chichijima, the largest of the Ogasawara Islands, around Saturday (19 September) noon. Additionally, Dujuan is expected to approach the Izu Islands south of Tokyo on Sunday (20 September) and possibly affect areas along Japan’s Pacific side through Tuesday (22 September), including Kanto and Shizuoka Prefecture.
• On Monday (21 September), maximum instantaneous wind speeds are forecast to reach 50 m/s over the waters near the Izu Islands and the Kanto region, and they could reach 35 m/s on land as well.
• Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has impacted parts of Miyazaki prefecture as of Saturday (19 September).
