According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Tropical Storm Queenie maintained its strength over the Philippine Sea as of 0500 hours (local time) on Friday (25 September).
• The storm was located approximately 1,065 kilometres east of Extreme Northern Luzon, at 19.6 degrees North, 131.6 degrees East, and was moving northwestward at 20 kilometres per hour. It had maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometres per hour near the centre and gustiness of up to 90kilometres per hour.
• PAGASA stated that Queenie is unlikely to directly affect the Philippines throughout the forecast period till Tuesday (29 September). However, heavy rainfall and severe winds may still occur outside the forecast confidence cone, and the forecast track may shift.
• The storm is forecast to move west-northwestward until Friday (25 September) afternoon before moving northwestward on Saturday (26 September). By Saturday afternoon, it is expected to decelerate and begin turning from northwestward to northeastward.
• Queenie is forecast to gradually intensify while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and may reach a typhoon category by Sunday (27 September). The system is forecast to exit the PAR between Sunday (27 September) afternoon and Monday (28 September) early morning.
• No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently in effect. Coastal waters are forecast to have wave heights of less than 2.0 metres over the next 24 hours.
