As per reports, following are the latest updates pertaining to thunderstorms recorded in Assam and West Bengal as of Tuesday (02 April).

• On Monday (01 April), officials informed that four persons were killed and nearly 53,000 people across 919 villages in 22 districts were affected by a thunderstorm in Assam. A total of 14,633 houses were either partially or fully damaged while over 10 hectares of cropland have been damaged. Huts, schools, shops, Anganwadi centres and other institutions have been damaged across the state, while scores of vehicles were damaged due to falling trees.
• A four-year-old child died and two persons went missing after a boat capsized in the Brahmaputra in South Salmara-Mankachar district on Sunday (31 March) night, while one each died in Cachar, West Karbi Anglong and Udalguri due to storm and lightning related accidents.
• Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (01 April) met the families affected by a heavy storm in Jalpaiguri a day before, leaving at least five persons dead, and issued directions to the district administration to conduct a survey on the damage to property.
• The number of those injured has reached more than 100 and nearly 200 people have been rendered homeless.
• Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the chief ministers of West Bengal, Assam and Manipur in the wake of severe losses suffered by the three states due to a storm, and assured them of all possible central help. Shah also appealed to the BJP workers in the three states to provide help to the affected people.
• As per the weather forecast issued by the IMD, on Tuesday (02 April), yellow alerts for thunderstorms and lightning are active in almost all districts of Assam excluding Chirang, Morigaon, Nagaon, Udalguri and Bishwanath while and orange alert for the same is active in Sibsagar.
• As per the weather forecast issued by the IMD, on Tuesday (02 April), orange alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds are active in Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Cooch Behar while yellow alerts for the same have been issued for Kalimpong, Alipur Duar, Dakshin Dinajpur, Uttar Dinajpur and Malda.
