As per reports, union Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (CPKC) representing thousands of workers at Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. is expected to carry out a 72-hour strike from Thursday (22 August), unless the parties can reach a last-minute agreement.
• Both CPKC and Canadian National Railway Company have been halting shipments in preparation for potential work stoppages by a combined 9300 workers at the two railways.
• If unresolved, this could disrupt shipments of essential goods and impact trade across the US and Mexico, with connections to major US rail and shipping hubs.
• The stoppages could disrupt food grain, coal, timber, petroleum, chemicals, and automotive shipments.
