As per reports, the Verdi union has called for a 48-hour workers’ strike at Munich Airport, starting at 0000 hours local time on Thursday (27 February) and lasting until 2359 hours local time on Friday (28 February) to exert pressure on public sector wage negotiations.
• A low four-digit number of employees has been called to participate. Verdi justifies the action due to the lack of progress in federal and local public service wage negotiations.
• Munich Airport authorities are coordinating with airlines and service providers to mitigate the inconvenience for travellers.
• Public sector employees and ground handling staff have been urged to cease work. Verdi argues that airport employees play a crucial role in ensuring air traffic safety and reliability under challenging conditions, including staff shortages and increasing workloads.
• The union is demanding an eight percent wage increase or at least an additional EUR 350 per month, alongside higher bonuses for high-stress roles and three additional days off.
