The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for the Ghat areas of Pune district and a Yellow Alert for Pune city on Tuesday (07 July), forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by occasional strong winds reaching 60 to 70 kilometres per hour at isolated places. As per the latest IMD nowcast, a Red Alert for heavy to moderate spells of rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching 60 to 70 kilometres per hour is active till 0400 hours (local time) on Tuesday (07 July).
The following are the latest situational updates regarding heavy rainfall in Pune:
• Heavy rainfall has resulted in widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion across several parts of Pune, with major delays reported on key arterial roads and low-lying areas.
• Authorities shifted more than 4,200 residents from flood-prone and low-lying areas in Pimpri Chinchwad to safer locations as a precautionary measure following rising water levels and localized flooding.
• Rain-related incidents have resulted in four fatalities in Pune district, including deaths caused by a landslide and wall collapse. In addition, two persons were reportedly swept away in separate rain-related incidents.
• Localized power supply disruptions have been reported in parts of Pune due to waterlogging and rain-related faults affecting electricity infrastructure. Restoration work is underway in the affected areas.
• The Pune–Mumbai Expressway and sections of the Old Pune–Mumbai Highway continue to remain vulnerable following recent landslides, waterlogging, and fallen trees, resulting in intermittent traffic disruptions and diversions.
• Railway operations on sections connecting Pune and Mumbai continue to remain susceptible to delays and operational adjustments following restoration work in the Bhor Ghat section affected by heavy rainfall and landslides.
• Pune Metro services are operating normally, with no weather-related suspension officially reported as of the latest update. Flight operations at Pune Airport continue under adverse weather conditions. Passengers are advised to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before travelling to the airport, as delays or operational adjustments remain possible.
• No major telecommunications outage has been officially reported across Pune. However, localized disruption to mobile and broadband services cannot be ruled out in areas affected by flooding or power interruptions.
