The India Meteorological Department (IMD), has issued orange alerts for very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, and Sirmaur on Thursday (15 August). Meanwhile, yellow alerts for the same have been issued in Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Solan.

A cloudburst also struck near Kalpa in Kinnaur District on Wednesday (14 August), bringing about flash floods in adjoining areas. The following are the updates on rainfall-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh:

• As of Wednesday (14 August) night, over 142 roads across Himachal Pradesh were closed due to heavy rainfall, flooding and debris. 73 roads were closed in Shimla, 22 in Mandi, 20 in Kullu, 14 in Sirmaur, five in Kangra, three in Kinnaur, and two in Chamba.
• 209 distribution transformer regions (DTRs) have also been disrupted, with 117 in Mandi, 40 in Sirmaur, and 31 in Lahul and Spiti, with smaller numbers of areas affected in the remaining districts. Due to these, power supply outages have been reported in several parts of the state.
• Two National Highways (NH) remained closed as of Thursday (15 August) morning, including NH-05 in Kinnaur district (blocked near Nigulsari), and NH-707 in Sirmaur district, closed near Paonta-Shilai North.
• The Pathankot-Chamba-Bharmaur NH was blocked for some time on Thursday (14 August) near Keru Hill, however traffic movement has reportedly been restored as of the afternoon hours.
