As per reports, the following are the latest updates regarding protest activity across Karnataka with regard to Cauvery river water issue, as of Friday (31 July):
• Pro-Kannada organisations have commenced a meeting in Bengaluru on Friday (31 July), to decide whether to call for a statewide bandh (shutdown) in Karnataka and to determine the next phase of protests regarding the Cauvery water sharing dispute.
• Currently, further details are awaited regarding this meeting.
• Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has commenced the ‘KRS Chalo’ protest in Mandya to protest against the order given by the Cauvery Water Control Committee and the Cauvery Water Management Authority to release water to Tamil Nadu.
• More than 1500 police personnel have been reportedly deployed in sensitive areas of the Mandya district, including the KRS, due to security concerns. Addtionally, barricades have been put up around the reservoir to restrict access, and public access to the KRS Brindavan Park has been temporarily restricted.
