As per reports, the update about the NYC nurses’ strike, which has entered its eighth day on Monday (19 January) are the following:
• A strike involving approximately 15,000 nurses in the whole of New York State has entered its eighth day as of Monday (19 January).
• Members of the nursing staff at NewYork-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai, and Montefiore hospitals walked off the job on Monday (12 January).
• The nurses are demanding higher compensation, increased staffing levels to manage patient loads, fully funded benefits, and enhanced workplace protections against violence.
• Contract negotiations, which took place on Thursday (15 January) and Friday (16 January), have reportedly stalled.
• Affected hospitals remain open but are currently scaling back on non-emergency surgical procedures while utilising travelling nurses to maintain essential operations.
