As per reports, following are the latest updates related to the ongoing unrest in Manipur, as of Thursday (16 July):
• Petroleum and LPG transporters in Manipur have threatened to suspend fuel supplies from Friday (31 July) unless the state government acts to stop alleged extortion along the Imphal-Jiribam stretch of National Highway-37. In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday (15 July), nine transporters’ bodies, including the All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Association, alleged that fuel tankers continue to face illegal collections despite travelling under CRPF escort.
• A mob pelted stones and vandalised an Assam Rifles camp causing damage to four vehicles of the security forces in Senapati town. The incident occurred at 2130 hours (local time) on Tuesday (14 July). The incident happened after the paramilitary forces launched an area domination patrol and search operation based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of armed cadres in Makuilongdi, about two kilometers west of a designated camp of the NSCN (I-M) at Oklong.
• On Wednesday (15 July), security forces arrested an active cadre of KCP-MC (Progressive) during a search operation at Khurai Ahongei Thangjam Leikai area under Porompat-PS, Imphal East district. On Tuesday (14 July), during an operation based on specific input at TM Kasom and Sikibung villages, Ukhrul district, security forces arrested four residents of Sikibung Village and recovered arms.
• On Wednesday (15 July), security forces recovered arms and ammunition from the forested area near Mongbung Village, Jiribam district and from Ishok Mamang Leikai, near Loktak Lake, under Wangoi-PS, Imphal West district as well.
• Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts. Movement of 196 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles. A total of 111 nakas/check points were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley, and one person was detained.
