As per reports, the following are the latest updates on landslide reported in Wayanad as of Thursday (09 July):
• Search and rescue operations are continuing in the Kalladi landslide area despite adverse weather conditions. Two additional bodies were recovered as of Thursday (09 July), increasing the death toll to five, while search operations continue for three missing persons.
• Rescue teams, comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue Services, Police and other agencies, are conducting search operations across four designated zones with the support of Kerala Police K-9 units and specialised search equipment.
• Authorities are also carrying out inspections near the Meenakshi Bridge and the surrounding areas to identify any remaining trapped individuals. A technical committee has directed the immediate removal of accumulated soil at vulnerable locations and instructed agencies to implement drainage measures to reduce the risk of further soil movement.
• Authorities have also initiated the repatriation of the deceased migrant workers, while inspections of the affected area continue to assess slope stability and ongoing safety measures.
• Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan also visited the Kalladi disaster site on Thursday (09 July), accompanied by CPM leaders M.V. Govindan and M.V. Jayarajan, to assess the situation.
