As per reports, Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj stated on Monday (10 August) that the Karnataka bandh (shutdown) on Thursday (13 August) would go ahead as planned. Nagaraj has further stated that over 2,000 organisations have extended support along with students. However, another meeting is expected to take place by some organisations and activists prior to the bandh who believe that a bandh may not be appropriate at this time. Currently, no further information regarding the meeting has been announced.
• The Bangalore Hotels Association has stated on Monday (10 August) that it would extend moral support to the bandh, but later appealed to pro-Kannada organisations to withdraw the call, citing reasons including rainfall in the state.
• Additionally, Nagaraj and other demonstrators were detained on Monday (10 August) during a protest at the Attibele check-post near the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border. The activists tried to block the highway to protest Tamil Nadu’s opposition to the Mekedatu dam project and to push for the statewide bandh.
