Update on intern doctors’ protest in Jammu and Kashmir as of Friday (04 September)

According to reports, the peaceful protest by MBBS and BDS intern doctors demanding an immediate hike in internship stipends continued at all Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across Jammu & Kashmir and at SKIMS Bemina on Thursday (03 September).

The following are the latest updates available as of Friday (04 September):

• Former CM and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, along with party leaders, also joined the protest by intern doctors at SKIMS Bemina on Thursday (03 September).
• All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir met the protesting interns at Government Medical College Anantnag.
• Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Incharge of AIMSA Jammu and Kashmir, expressed gratitude to Aga Ruhullah, Waheed Para and Altaf Bukhari for visiting and extending their support to the protesting intern doctors. He urged the government to take immediate action on the stipend issue, warning that prolonged protests could eventually impact patient care and hospital services across Jammu and Kashmir.
• Demonstrators announced that as part of the ongoing peaceful protest, a candle march will be held on Friday (04 September) at 2045 hours (local time) across the participating medical colleges and SKIMS Bemina.
