According to reports, heavy rainfall has been reported in Mumbai as on Saturday (04 July) causing instances of waterlogging and closed roads across the city.
The following are the latest updates on disruptions caused by heavy rainfall:
• The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday afternoon (04 July) announced the closure of key routes in Mumbai after unabated rainfall amid a red alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The suburbs have been shut for vehicular traffic owing to extreme waterlogging triggered by overflow of Mogra nalla (canal/drain) as well as the small drains linked to the Mogra drain, which flows through the western suburbs.
• The roads include Noor-e-Ilahi Seva Road in Chembur, Veera Desai Road in Andheri, Municipal Market Road, SV Road in Andheri, Andheri subway, Vikhroli Huma mall junction as well as Gandhinagar junction and near Paresh Park Market.
• While continuous rainfall has delayed the release of accumulated water, there is also a high tide of 4.26 metres forecast in the city at 1450 hours (local time).
• Waterlogging was reported from Andheri, Sion, Kurla, Dadar, Parel, Bandra, Kings Circle, Gandhi Market and Worli. Civic workers were deployed across the city to clear clogged drains and pump out accumulated rainwater as flooding was reported from multiple low-lying areas.
• The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), disaster management teams and emergency services remain on high alert as the city braces for more rainfall. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from waterlogged areas and follow official weather advisories until conditions improve.
• Heavy rainfall across Mumbai also prompted the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking to divert, curtail and temporarily suspend several bus routes across the city. The traffic control measures were implemented at multiple locations due to waterlogging, tree falls and flooding.
• Services on Maha Mumbai Metro Line 2A were also restored to normal after a temporary technical issue between Dahisar East and Kandarpada stations led to operational irregularities on Saturday (04 July) amid heavy rainfall across Mumbai and suburbs.
• Additionally according to Maha Mumbai Metro, trains between Andheri West and Dahanukarwadi continued to operate normally. On the Dahanukarwadi–Dahisar East section, services were run on a single-line bi-directional operation, allowing trains to move in both directions on the unaffected track with regulated movement.
• Mumbai Traffic Police on X also stated several junctions to be impacted which include Chembur SCLR underpass, Kurla Depot, Kamani Junction, Chembur Station Road, Amar Mahal Southbound Bridge, Poisar Subway (Samtanagar), Birsa Munda Chowk and Malad Subway among others. Closures, diversions and slow moving traffic has been reported.
