As per reports, a ferry reportedly sank in the Bali Strait around 2320 hours (local time) late night on Wednesday (02 July) shortly after departing the town of Banyuwangi in East Java towards Gilimanuk in Bali. The boat was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles.

• As of Friday (04 July), at least six deaths have been confirmed, while 31 people have been rescued and about 29 people remain missing.
• Rescue operations by Basarnas and Indonesia’s armed forces are currently ongoing, assisted by boats, helicopters, and local fishermen amid rough sea and low visibility.
• Indonesian authorities are continuing investigations into the exact cause of the accident. Survivors have reportedly told rescuers there appeared to be a leak in the engine room of the ferry.
