Risk level: Low Country: India

As per reports, the following are the latest updates regarding the farmers’ protest over proposed Bidadi Integrated Township project, as of Monday (02 November):

• The state government has issued final notifications for acquiring about 1,895 acres in Byramangala and Kanchugaranahalli villages. With this, the government has completed issuing final notifications for all nine villages identified for the project, covering a total of 7,343 acres.
• The latest development comes even as a section of landowners continues to oppose the acquisition, with their protest having entered its 570th day on Sunday (01 November).
• Additionally, this indicates that the government has allegedly not paused the project even though it had announced a four-member committee to collect feedback from landowners previously.
• The final notifications mark a crucial milestone in the acquisition process, enabling the government to proceed with compensation and take further steps towards securing possession of the land for the township.
• Under this notification, landowners can opt for developed sites in lieu of monetary compensation. Moreover, this project has reportedly been exempted from rehabilitation and resettlement benefits specified in Schedules I and II of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
