As per reports, the following are the latest details of the strike that is underway by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Karamchari Ekta Union as of Wednesday (23 September):
• The Delhi government is set to hold consultations with the state labour department to discuss salaries of striking DTC drivers.
• The DTC Karamachari Ekta Union may launch a complete ‘kaam band’ (stop work) protest from Monday (28 September) over non-implementation of basic Dearness Allowance for DTC contract employees.
• Additionally, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court challenging the ongoing strike by DTC drivers, conductors and other employees. The petition seeks directions for the immediate resumption of public bus services.
• The petition reportedly states that students, daily wage workers, salaried employees, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, patients and economically weaker sections depend on the cheap bus service. Due to the strike, they are forced to resort to expensive alternative modes of transport.
