Update on Depression and LPA over Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal – Wednesday (22 October)

As per the latest Tropical Weather Outlook issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday (22 October), there is a depression over the southeast Arabian Sea and a well-marked low pressure area (LPA) over southeast Bay of Bengal.

The following are the details:

• As of 1130 hours (local time) on Wednesday (22 October), the depression over southeast Arabian Sea remained stationary over the same region, near latitude 8.9 degree North and longitude 67.4 degree East, about 630 kilometres west-southwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep) and 1010 kilometres southwest of Panjim (Goa).
• It is expected to move slowly in the north-northwestward direction during the next 24 hours.
• As of 1130 hours (local time) on Wednesday (22 October), the well-marked LPA over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast remained over the same region. It is expected to move northwestwards acros north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts in the next 24 hours.
• Moreover, according to IMD, the probability of cyclogenesis (formation of depression) over Bay of Bengal is ‘nil’ over the next 24 hours and ‘low’ over the next 72 to 96 hours.
