According to latest reports, following are the latest important developments regarding the crisis in Bangladesh, as of Thursday (15 August):

• In order to prevent the Awami League’s “March to Dhanmondi 32” demonstration to pay homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Thursday (15 August), students and various opposition groups occupied the Dhanmondi 32 area overnight, and continue to remain as of 1130 hours of Thursday (15 August) morning.
• The protesting students and citizens have gathered across the streets from Metro Shopping Mall, extending from the Shukrabad intersection. A significant military presence has been deployed on the ground to maintain law and order, supported by police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel. No Awami League gathering has been reported thus far.
• Meanwhile, leaders and workers of the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir have occupied streets in the Shahbagh area of Dhaka since Thursday (15 August) early morning. Some persons positioned near the flower markets at Shahbagh, were allegedly directing traffic movement and inspecting vehicles, checking for any Awami League persons.
• Furthermore, a few hundred people, including actor Rokeya Prachi, who had gathered at Dhanmondi 32 on Wednesday (14 August) to pay homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, were allegedly assaulted by counter-protestors with sticks, and were forced to disperse.
• The International Crimes Tribunal has commenced its investigation against 10 people, including former Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina, in connection with various instances of violence, vandalism, and deaths of protestors that took place since the commencement of the student protests in July.
• As per the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, announced that a UN team will soon visit Bangladesh to probe the violence that took place since the commencement of the protests to out PM Hasina.
