As per reports, heavy smoke from nearby wildfires was reported in the Casper area in Wyoming early Thursday (22 August). A fire between Glenrock and Douglas caused the temporary closure of Interstate 25 on Wednesday (21 August), but it has since reopened. Addiiotnally, air quality in Casper is ‘unhealthy’ to ‘very unhealthy’ due to the same.

• Interstate 90 between Buffalo and Gillette is closed due to wildfires, likely caused by lightning. Pre-evacuation notices are in effect for rural areas west of Gillette and south of Interstate 90. Evacuation orders have been issued for recreational areas north of Gillette. The Bureau of Land Management has deployed crews and airtankers to combat the fast-moving fires.
• The Goltra Fire in Colorado which started from a lightning strike, has closed parts of US Highway 06 west of Denver. The fire, now at 200 acres and 60 percent contained, is not threatening homes or prompting evacuations. Road closures are in effect from Highway 58 to Highway 119.
• Firefighting efforts are being challenged by steep terrain, winds, and rattlesnakes. The weather forecast for Golden is improving, with a temperature drop to 80 degrees.
