As per reports, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for coastal areas and waters along parts of Texas on Monday (31 August).
• The warning covers coastal waters from High Island to Freeport out 20 nautical miles and waters from High Island to Freeport from 20 to 60 nautical miles, as well as Bolivar Peninsula, including Bolivar, Crystal Beach and High Island. The warning remains in effect until 0900 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) on Wednesday (02 September).
• The affected coastal areas face potential tropical storm force winds of 39 to 57 miles per hour. Hazardous marine conditions are also forecast.
• Localized storm surge of up to 2 feet above ground is possible in surge-prone areas from Tuesday (01 September) morning through Wednesday (02 September) morning. Sections of near-shore roads and parking areas may experience inundation, while marinas, docks, boardwalks and piers may sustain minor to locally moderate damage.
• A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional three to six inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts of six to nine inches possible. The San Jacinto River, Trinity River and Neches River may also rise.
• Governor Greg Abbott has activated more than 1,500 state personnel and emergency response resources, including rescue aircraft, swift-water rescue boats and high-water vehicles. Around 20 state agencies are coordinating through the State Operations Center.
• In Southeast Texas, Beaumont emergency services have deployed 11 drainage crews and prepared high-water vehicles and other resources for potential flooding and rescues. Entergy has staged an additional 12 vegetation crews and nine line crews and adjusted staffing to maintain 24-hour coverage. Entergy, CenterPoint Energy, American Electric Power and Texas-New Mexico Power have activated emergency operations centres and placed crews on standby.
• Reportedly, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is monitoring the grid and has stated that statewide grid reliability is not expected to be affected.
